about

Released on March 20th, 2020 — the day the new Animal Crossing game, New Horizons, came out on Nintendo Switch (and a day after my birthday!).

Animal Crossing has always been an influence to catbeats' world. The relaxed feeling and somehow even the music phrasing creeped into catbeats music. It was pointed out to me by El Huervo first when he heard the early recordings and later others mentioned it which I acknowledged happily!

With this release I had track 2 recorded for a few years and had a plan to release a KK Slider single at some point. I still didn't have the right A-side though and felt like I wanted to make this single more than one track. When I finally made the opening track "Cappuccino" in October 2019 I felt a good energy behind it and quickly called on my sax-pug to lay down some smoothness. A week later I assembled it and it captured the mood of the image in my mind.

This single is a continuation of what is happening on the previous single "Closing Hour At The Cat Café". Now behind closed doors a private concert occurs for the animal-patrons in the midnight hour. A familiar voice wafts through after the sax pauses... it is none other than KK Slider of Animal Crossing fame. Here are his jams! Enjoy!

In their own words catbeats sound is Nintendo’s Animal Crossing game meets Air and El Huervo with Fugazi’s bass! ... more
